TSB no. 1 Engine - Rough Idle, Hard Start, or Start & Stall
NUMBER: 18-020-01
GROUP: Vehicle Performance
DATE:
Aug. 17, 2001
SUBJECT: Rough Idle, Hard Start, Start & Stall
OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves installing a revised EGR valve.
NOTE :THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Vehicle may intermittently exhibit any of the following conditions:

^ Rough engine idle.

^ Hard start or long crank after hot soak.

^ Start and stall when started with cold engine

^ Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0300, Multiple Cylinder Mis-fire.

DIAGNOSIS:

Using the Diagnostic Scan Tool (DRB III(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures, verify all engine/transmission systems are functioning as designed. If other DTC's are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the condition(s) can be duplicated or is described by the customer, it may be caused by the EGR valve being stuck partially open. To confirm whether or not the valve is stuck partially open:

1. If the condition(s) can be duplicated, then block off the EGR passageway to the intake manifold. If the condition(s) disappear, but will reappear when the EGR passageway is re-opened, perform the Repair Procedure.

2. If the condition(s) cannot be duplicated, but are described by the customer, perform the Repair procedure

TSB no. 2 A/T - Fluid Usage
NUMBER:
21-006-01
GROUP: Transmission
DATE:
Jun. 29, 2001
SUBJECT: Automatic Transmission Fluid Usage ATF+4 (Type 9602)
NOTE :THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH CHRYSLER AUTOMATIC
TRANSMISSIONS EXCEPT 1999 AND EARLIER MINIVANS.

DISCUSSION:

A new transmission fluid (ATF+4(R) - Type 9602) has been developed and is being used as factory fill for all vehicles with Chrysler automatic transmissions. Until now, vehicles originally filled with ATF+2 or ATF+3 were to be serviced with ATF+3. Effective immediately,
it is recommended that all vehicles with Chrysler automatic transmissions except for 1999 and earlier minivans be serviced with ATF+4(R). ATF+3 should continue to be used for 1999 and earlier minivans because of the potential for torque converter shudder during break in. For all other applications the ATF+4(R) fluid offers significant benefits as outlined below.

NOTE :ATF+4(R) MUST ALWAYS BE USED IN VEHICLES THAT WERE ORIGINALLY FILLED
WITH ATF+4(R).

NOTE :SERVICE INTERVALS DO NOT CHANGE. THE SERVICE INTERVAL CURRENTLY IN
EFFECT FOR A GIVEN VEHICLE SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE FOLLOWED.

NOTE :ATF+4(R) IS COMPATIBLE WITH ATF+3 AND CAN BE USED TO TOP OFF VEHICLES THAT CURRENTLY HAVE ATF+2 OR ATF+3. DO NOT USE ATF+2 OR ATF+3 TO TOP OFF
VEHICLES THAT HAVE ATF+4(R) FLUID.

BENEFITS

^ Better anti-wear properties

^ Improved rust/corrosion prevention

^ Controls oxidation

^ Eliminates deposits

^ Controls friction

^ Retains anti-foaming properties

^
Superior properties for low temperature operation

FLUID COLOR

Mopar ATF+4(R) is a World Class Fluid having exceptional durability. However, the red dye used in ATF+4°R is not permanent; as the fluid ages it may become darker or appear brown in color. ATF+4(R) also has a unique odor that may change with age. With ATF+4(R) fluid, color and odor are no longer
indicators of fluid condition and do not support a fluid change.

TSB no. 3 Ignition Lock Cylinder - Service Precautions
NUMBER:
19-02-00 Rev. A
GROUP: Steering
DATE:
July 28, 2000
SUBJECT:
Ignition Lock Cylinder Service

DISCUSSION:
Recent changes to the ignition lock cylinder have resulted in the removal of a chamfer on the lock cylinder retaining pin. This may cause the pin to hang up on the plastic trim ring when the lock cylinder is removed. If this situation is encountered on any of the models listed above, it may be necessary to remove the trim ring prior to removing the lock cylinder. This is done by unseating the retaining tabs on the trim ring and removing it. The lock cylinder can then be removed without any Interference (See Figure 1). Future models will modify the lock housing to eliminate this condition.

SUBJECT: Clunking Or Rattle In Steering Wheel/Steering Column
OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves resetting the steering column preload.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION: Steering wheel/column clunking or rattle is more frequent while hitting
bumps or on hard turns.

DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect steering wheel/column for any rattle or clunking noise. If symptoms exist perform the Repair Procedure.

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.

TSB no. 5 Head Gasket - Application
NUMBER:
09-07-99
GROUP: Engine
DATE:
Sep. 17, 1999
SUBJECT: 2.5L V-6 Head Gasket Application
NOTE :THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L V-6 ENGINE.

DISCUSSION:
Changes were made to 2.5L V-6 engines beginning in the 1998 model year. These changes included a new head gasket (Steel) and accompanying piston changes to compensate for the reduced clearance.

When replacing head gaskets or pistons, it is important to select part numbers for the appropriate year of vehicle/engine that is being serviced. The part numbers are appropriately identified in the parts catalog and PAIS system.

If a composite gasket was originally on the engine (1995/1996/1997), a composite gasket must be used as a replacement gasket.

CAUTION :ENGINES ORIGINALLY BUILT WITH A COMPOSITE HEAD GASKET MUST USE A
COMPOSITE GASKET AS A REPLACEMENT PART. ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR IF A
COMPOSITE GASKET IS REPLACED WITH A STEEL GASKET.

OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves replacing the windshield washer nozzle with revised
parts.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Windshield washer nozzle(s) plug. Nozzle(s) may be cleared with compressed air but plugging returns.

DIAGNOSIS:
If vehicle exhibits this condition or owner describes this condition and washer system is functioning properly up to the nozzle(s), perform the Repair Procedure.

TSB no. 8 Antitheft System - Vehicle Stall/No Start
NUMBER:
08-14-99
GROUP: Electrical
DATE:
May 21,1999
SUBJECT: Vehicle Start And Stall or Vehicle No-Start

NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM (SKIS).

DISCUSSION:

A vehicle start and stall or no-start condition may exist from the interaction between a SKIS key and a Mobil Speedpass(R). This condition occurs during cranking, when the Mobil Speedpass(R) cylinder is held
immediately adjacent to the key being used to start the vehicle.

NOTE: THIS CONDITION DOES NOT OCCUR BY THE MOBIL SPEEDPASS(R) CYLINDER
SIMPLY BEING ATTACHED TO THE SAME KEY RING.

If a stall or no-start condition exists due to this problem, the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) indicator light will flash and the vehicle will stall after 2 seconds of running. The Sentry key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) will set either the "Transponder Comm Failure", or a "Transponder CRC Failure" fault code. To diagnosis this condition, remove the Mobil Speedpass(R) from the key ring and attempt to start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts and remains running, SKIS key interaction with the Mobil Speedpass(R) was the cause. This condition will not cause a vehicle to stall after it has been running normally. If a start and stall or no-start condition continues once the Mobil Speedpass(R) is removed, continue with the appropriate diagnostic procedures.

In cases where SKIS key interaction with the Mobil Speedpass(R) is causing the condition, instruct the customer to slightly separate the SKIS key and Mobil Speedpass(R) when starting the vehicle. There are no long-term adverse effects on any of the components once the Mobil Speedpass(R) is removed from
the SKIS operating area.

RECALL no. 1 Recall 00V366000: Child Restraint Instructions Missing

Certain passenger vehicles, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of FMVSS No. 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems." Some of the owner's manuals for these vehicles are missing instructions that provide a step-by-step procedure, including diagrams, for properly attaching a child restraint system's tether strap to the tether anchorage.

In the event of a crash, the child seat may not be properly attached increasing the risk of injury to the child.

Owners will be provided with an addendum to the owner's manuals. Owner notification began
November 12, 2000. Owners who do not receive the free owner's manual addendum within a reasonable time should contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

RECALL no. 2 - Right Front Brake Hose Bracket Separation

September 2000
Safety Recall No. 888
Right Front Brake Hose Bracket

NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles built from
April 3,
2000
through April 7, 2000 (MDH 040320 through 040718).

IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Federal law requires you to stop sale and complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also consider this requirement to apply to used vehicle inventory and should perform this recall on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the DIAL VIP System.

Subject

The right front brake hose on about 3,300 of the above vehicles may have an inadequately welded bracket. Separation of the bracket may cause the right front brake tube to crack and leak, resulting in a partial brake system loss and increased stopping distance. The increased stopping distance can cause
an accident without warning.

Repair

A bracket must be added to secure the right front brake hose.

RECALL no. 3 00V066000: Incorrect Child Lock Instruction Label

The affected vehicles were built with incorrect child lock instruction labels.
